Kitchen Conundrum in Navy

I’m in love with Navy kitchens. Navy-blue-almost-black cabinets with white counter tops. Blue is my favorite color, so I should naturally have a blue kitchen.

My fine china is blue & white and I collect delft vases and pots. I love blue & white.

My kitchen is basically laid out as two separate spaces. On one side is the cooking / cupboards part and on the other side is the eating part with french doors that open to the back patio. The two spaces are separated by a peninsula with a large work surface. Since my eat-in space looks exactly like this and I love ikat, I want to make it look like this. I would choose a different table – maybe even a banquette – not sure yet. The wallpaper is Thai Ikat by Thibaut .

Another thing that I LOVE – Turkish rugs in the kitchen. Something about a good rug like this makes a room feel so livable. The pink flowers tie in with the pinks in the rug and soften the space so much. I love it.

The other kitchen I’m loving is the gray kitchen. As much as I love these navy guys, the gray kitchens just keep popping up and distracting me from my first love.  Oh what to do!

Kitchen Inspiration

My kitchen leaves me in a constant state of “torn”.  Not because I don’t know what I want.  I want so many different kitchens!  But I only have one.  Thankfully, it’s an ugly one.  But it’s a big one with big windows and big possibilities.

However, do you know what isn’t inspiring?  This –

I’m certain that the only thing these pictures inspire is the urge to do immediate demolition. My quandary though… what to replace it with??

I love light open kitchens. Something about white is so inviting and clean. But then white is everywhere (as it should be), and while we are painting our cabinets anyway, why not go for something a little sassy? I love the dark colors with beautiful stone counter tops. It’s just so different and strikingly beautiful. White or Bold, here are some kitchens I’m loving right now –

Check out this one.  Most of our homes aren’t blessed with Kitchen genes such as this, but I don’t think I could imagine anthing better than this ceiling!  Skylights!?!?  I can’t even comment on that gorgeous antique piece blowing my mind as an island / sink, or that insane range hood…

I’m dying to put this in my kitchen:  Brass Library Sconces (like these!).  These guys hanging above open shelving = one of my favorite things.  Those sunburst mirrors are not too shabby either –

White & Brass – I’m just not sure that there’s anything better.

These colors are so soothing, and the textures – the dark grouted subway tile UP TO THE CEILING, and the wood plank ceilings…and that MARBLE farm sink, ah!

Favorite Kitchens – Desire to Inspire Tim Street Porter

I just don’t think that it gets better than this one.  Calacatta Marble all the way to the ceiling – it’s perfection.

There isn’t a lot I wouldn’t do to score a super-sized, windowed cabinet like the one in this kitchen.  I will have one of these one day.

Get a good look at the backsplash above this sink. I really hate most of the cheesy designs that people put in backsplash behind sinks or stoves or whatever, but I. Love. This.

I saved the best for last:  Something about this kitchen just kills me.  It is  is so beautiful, in an understated way.  The brass pendants over the farm sink, marble counters + super tall backsplash, that gorgeous cream color combined with the dark cabinets and brass hardware… it’s hard to want to leave this picture….Favorite Kitchens - Kristen Buckingham

Now just to figure out how to take everything wonderful from these pictures and put them into my own kitchen.  That’s all…
